Colwyn Bay can be a decent place on a summers afternoon. I spent many good days when my lads were young there and along the coast at Prestatyn. Indeed 18 months or so after the New Years Day game in 2015 a stiflingly hot day provided me with an excellent days cricket as Glamorgan played Derbyshure. The mercury rose to around 34\u00b0 and the beer tent did business that I suspect kept Colwyn Bay CC in funds for a long time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, the afternoon that led to myself and 375 other hardy souls making our way to Llanelian Road must have seen temperatures around 35\u00b0 lower. It was bitingly cold, and a real tempest was blowing with the icy rain barely moving from the horizontal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We had played Colwyn Bay twice in the previous 5 weeks. A win in the Trophy was followed by a Boxing Day draw at EP. It made for a pretty bad record against the Bay – 4 games, and only that single win. The previous season we had played in North Wales on Easter Monday, and drawn nil all. It was certainly a better day for watching football than New Years Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jack Ryan, making his second debut for the Club, after a short loan spell earlier in the season, gave us the lead shortly before half time. Frank Sinclair, erstwhile of Premier League fame at Chelsea and Leicester City was the Colwyn Bay manager, was to feature heavily in the remainder of the game. He had put in a masterly performance at EP in the first meeting between the Clubs in August 2013, controlling the game, (which the Seagulls won), and displaying a quality rarely seen in regional football.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a less inspired display which saw him hit the headlines. He equalised shortly after the second half started, and the game remained all square until the 88th minute when Chris Sharp rifled one home to give us the win. That wasn’t the end of the entertainment. Having engaged in a war of words with referee Scott Oldham throughout the game, Sharp’s goal reduced him to a state akin to apoplexy. It occasioned Mr Oldham to brandish the red card. It must have taken him 5 minutes to leave the field in a stop-start exited, as he returned for further discourse, Eventually reaching the dressing room, from the sound of things he had taken the door off its hinges. The smallish County following were doubled up, and a couple of minutes later more than happy with the three points to take back across the border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
