The FA Cup tie against Brighouse in September 2013/14 was the first time that County had ever entered the competition at such an early stage since 1897. It was the 2nd Qualifying Round and the draw saw us matched against Brighouse Town from the North East Counties League Premier Division – three tiers below the NLN.
It was the first, and to date, (at the time of writing), the only meeting between the Clubs. County has started the season very poorly, with only one win in 9 league games, and the 5th of those had seen the departure of Ian Bogie from the EP hot-seat. A struggling team met an in-form one, (Brighouse won thier league that season), and we were made to struggle. It took until the 67th minute before the deadlock was broken, and full back Kyle Jacobs rifled one in from around 30 yards. The win was welcome – but a dismal display in the next round as the Hatters exited from the competition at the hands of Rushall Olympic.
