EP – HOME FROM HOME: 1990’s

The 1990’s was a decade of almost unparalleled success for County. We came into it 3rd in Division 4, (Tier 4). The work that Bergara had started was showing the first green shoots. It grew from there. A promotion in 1991; 4 Wembley appearances; promotion in 1997, (allied to a League Cup semi final appearance), and the two and a half years until the end of the decade had seen us become established as a Division 1, (Tier 2), club. The last home game of the decade was a 3-2 win over Wolves. Despite a reverse at Ipswich a couple of days later, we went into the Millenium celebrations in 6th place. It was the highest place in County’s history. The management of the Club, on and off the field, in the ensuing years, led to a cataclysmic fall. Within 14 years we had fallen to the lowest point. But that is for other pages on this site.

We played 277 home games in the decade – I saw every minute of every game at EP in the 1990’s. It was a wondrous time. We lost only 48 of those games, and had a win ratio of 55%, with 152 victories. We saw some great players, and there were many memorable nights under the lights as Premier League opposition visited in cup-ties.

Click on the year to see details of the games, plus a little commentary from my perspective.

If I’ve managed to find any video footage on line, this is indicated by “Highlights” in the date column on the individual year pages
