County played 254 games at Edgeley Park in the 2000’s. I missed out on three of them. The first was against MK Dons in late 2004, (a business function in London); against Mansfield on the opening day of 2005/06, (holiday), then, and lastly a 5-2 beating of Wrexham in 2006/07, (family gathering on the South Coast on a day when I had the misfortune to go to St Mary’s for an absolutely appalling game between Southampton and Plymouth). It was a decade of downs; ups, and then a down which was to end almost unbelievably.
The statistics tell all. Of the 251 games I saw only a third ended in victory with over 40% seeing me leave EP having seen defeat. The first six years of the decade was appalling. We started with a loss to Palace, and ended up with a 6-0 mauling at the Moss Rose. the win record in that period was 24%. The Club fell from 6th in Division 1, (2nd tier), plummeting to 92nd and rock bottom of the whole league – a fall of 66 places.
To see this collapse unfold click on the year links below, and not only read about events on the field but also the catastrophic developments off it as the ownership of the Club changed hands 3 times, and eventually as the decade concluded with a collapse into administration. Frankly a whole book could be written about these years with the guilty parties named and shamed. It couldn’t get any worse, surely. But it did as a series of chancers; incompetents, and ego’s off the field took us into regional football in the 2010’s
If I’ve managed to find any video footage on line, this is indicated by “Highlights” in the date column on the individual year pages
