The Cheshire Senior Cup has given the opportunity to see some of the smaller Cheshire Clubs. Going around these grounds I am always amazed by the commitment; loyalty and voluntary effort that is put in. These individuals truly are the heartbeat of grassroots football – and the trip to Wood Park, Alsager was no different. A warm welcome, (on a pretty cold night!); a more than decent refreshment point, and a competitive game where the ‘minnows’, from 4 tiers lower, put on a battling display.
The statistics show that this game was played in front of the lowest crowd I have been a part of for a County first team fixture.
County put out a pretty strong team that evening – virtually all of the starting XI played a significant role in the NLN campaign. The tie was over with two early goals from County. Not a particularly memorable game but always a pleasure to go to places like that,
