Just prior to the Covid lockdown County welcomed Boreham Wood to Edgeley Park. It was the return of the away fixture three and a half months previously which had seen a salutary 4-0 defeat. That game marked the last appearance of Ian Ormson in a County shirt. Ormson had made his debut at Southport in an FA Cup game back in September 2011, and after being a fixture through a large part of the early years in the National League North, had seen Ben Hinchliffe take the position. He was released at the end of the 2019/20 season, and at the time of writing reports are that he has retired from the game. That is a disappointment for me as I believed that he had the ability to play for a long time to come.
The game in January 2020 went the way of its predecessor. Three down at half time, hopes were raised when on-loan Devante Rodney pulled one back 6 minutes into the second half. There was to be no more, and thus the first home game of the year resulted in a defeat. Having thumped Halifax on Boxing Day, and followed it with a win at Fylde, and a draw at The Shay hoped were high of pushing on into the promotion race. Little did we know what was to appear on the horizon within a month or so …..
