Highlights

..

in selecting a highlighted game from the 3 matches we have had against the reborn club it would have been easy to pick the FA Cup tie at EP in 2014. That was a more than decent game and drew the biggest crowd since relegation to regional football. There was, for the first time in ages, and when Scott Spencer hit a sensational goal, (see the highlights link in the games schedule below), the Cheadle End erupted. It was a feeling that football was back, and it was aided by a large following from the other end of Cheshire. So different from the away followings in regional football which were rarely into 3 figures and, on one occasion, as few as 7 when Brackley played.

But the selected game was at the back end of 2018/19, which of course eventually turned out to be the Championship winning campaign. A draw at Hereford on the Saturday previously had been matched by Chorley who conceded a late equaliser to Telford. With 5 games left, (one more than Chorley), we were two points behind. A win was more than vital on what was my first visit to The Deva in 11 years. So often over the years I had seen the Hatters go into these kind of games and fall.

..

Not so that evening at the Deva. A huge County following, (pictured), witnessed a rampant performance, as we fired in 3 goals in each half to come out 6-0 winners.

..

We went back to the top, and whilst there were still hurdles to overcome, as both sides faltered in the run in, losing 2 games each, that one point advantage proved crucial. Looking back at my records, it is the only time in the 57 years I have seen us score 6 away from home. So a game to remember not only for the margin but also the contribution it made to the title win.
