The drop into non-league brought a lot of new destinations. By the time we got to Twerton Park the new ports of call had included Forest Green; Kidderminster; Tamworth; and the Newport Stadium. But the home of Bath City, for the first ever meeting of the Clubs, wasn’t one of them. We had been reasonably regular visitors in the early to mid 90’s when Bristol Rovers were the tenants before eventually settling at the Memorial Ground.

It had been a dismal start in the 5th tier, 2 wins in 16 games, and came hot on the heels of a 4-0 spanking at the hands of Wrexham three days previously. And things didn’t look to have improved in a goalless first half. The second half was well under way when Nick Chadwick gave us the lead, occasioning a quite bizarre response from him as I describe more fully in the post on Twerton Park, and Michael Paton sealed the win in injury time. It was a welcome three points, and as things turned out marked the third and last win of Hamann’s ill-fated stay in the EP hot seat – his reign had but 3 weeks to run.
