With County’s descent into regional football we met Bradford Park Avenue for the first time in 45 years. Not the original club of course, but a phoenix which had arisen from the ashes of the outfit which had folded all those years ago. There is more about the Horsfall Stadium elsewhere but I always enjoyed trips over the hill, despite the fact it always seemed to be on the chilly side. I suppose that the openness of the Horsfall didn’t help in that regard.

On Good Friday 2018 our trip there started late after some monumental traffic jam on the M62. A win was crucial as we were battling to stay in the promotion, and what turned out ultimately to be the play-off race. Looking at the BPA line-up with the benefit of a couple of years of hindsight there was a strong County connection. Mark Ross; Gianluca Havern; Javan Vidal; Oli Johnson and Danny Boshell had turned out previously and Frank Mulhern, (then on loan to BPA from Guiseley), would join us in the summer.

The game started well, and by the hour mark, Jason Oswell had scored twice, to make it 26 already that season. It looked to be a comfortable win, but the home side clawed their way back in. Vidal scored, and then with 9 minutes to go Mulhern scored a cracker to equalise – maybe it was that which fostered his move to EP! It looked to be ending all-square when deep into injury time Jimmy Ball volleyed home from the edge of the area to give us the win. Cue scenes of ecstasy around the Horsfall Stadium!!! It was one of those moments that fans of any club yearn for.
